Betway Premiership Opens With Goals, Upsets and New Faces

The 2025/26 Betway Premiership kicked off in style this weekend with shock results across the board as well as some new faces that made an instant impact amongst the betway premiership fans. A total of 19 goals were scored giving football lovers some optimism that this will be an electrifying season as far as goals are concerned. New boys Siwelele FC sit top of the table however there were many new faces that shone in round 1. Here is the pick of the bunch

Samkelo Maseko – Durban City FC

Samkelo Maseko got Durban City’s season rolling, finding the net in their win over TS Galaxy and showing he’s more than ready for top-flight football. The attacker not only scored a goal but bossed the middle of the park, showing positive signs that he will be a key figure in City’s push for survival and possibly a top 8 finish.

Siviwe Magidigidi – Siwelele FC

In Bloemfontein, Siviwe Magidigidi made a dream start—scoring twice for Siwelele FC in their first-ever Premiership match, a debut performance against Golden Arrows that had fans buzzing and excited at what the 20 year old will offer this season.

Khaya Mfecane – Chippa United

Over at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, Khaya Mfecane grabbed a crucial goal in Chippa United’s gutsy 1–1 draw with defending champions Mamelodi Sundown’s, showing positive signs that Badela’s boys will not be pushovers this season.

Medupi Thokolo – Sekhukhune United

And in one of the weekend’s biggest shocks, Meduphi Thokolo ran the show as Sekhukhune stunned the Orlando Pirates—earning himself a well-deserved Man of the Match award.

If week one is anything to go by, this season won’t just be about the usual favourites. New names are here, and they’re ready to shake things up.
